OWN network

So, did you hear? Oprah's getting her own network. It's called OWN, Oprah Winfrey Network. Carson Kressley and Nancy O'dell are hosting a show I'm very excited to see, called "Your Own Show," A contest where contenders voted by viewers as the best fight to earn their own show on the network. Unfortunately, OWN does not come with my cable service, but still, who can't enjoy a little bit of Carson Kressley? He's one of the funniest people on the planet. Just watch this.

New Years!!!

I love and celebrate Christmas (it's awesome!!!) but Isobel already wrote about that (look under this post) so I'm going to take on.... NEW YEARS!!!

In the words of The Simpsons, New Years is the day of paying for decisions you will forever regret. Whether this means paying $1000 for a cleaning crew to come take care of your living room after last night's party, or making a New Year's Resolution to metaphorically clean up the mess you've made on this planet, you just have to do SOMETHING. What I suggest:

  • Hunt down the evil El Grincho (the real grinch,)
  • Write a cookbook (the recipes I've created so far are for Mustard, Cookies, and French Toast.)
  • Solarize your home (wind power works too,)
  • Make all the kids in your semi-large city happy with faux snow (Californians, COME ON!!!
  • Travel to all 7 continents (Antarctica is very possible! Boats travel out all the time:)
  • Meet Snooki and ask her how on earth she gets her hair to poof like that
  • Meet Oprah and praise her leadership academy
  • Don't question the power of Oprah (she may have flaws, but did you build a school in Africa? Didn't think so.)
  • Come up with a plan to improve your money system. (waiting. waiting. Sometimes this year, please! Oh, fine. I'll do it for you: Ahem. Step 1. Switch to debit cards. Step 2. stop buying ipods/dvds, and invest in a netflix account. Step 3. Pay off your debt. Step 4. Er, refer to Suze Orman for further info.
  • Open a free, high-quality leadership academy in Tijuana. (but still don't gloat about Oprah:))
  • Go to the San Francisco Cheese Academy, featured in O magazine. Yep, that's right. Or, if you're lactose-intolerant or whatever, visit anyways. The population is under 1 million, but I have a theory that if you included tourists in that number, on certain days it would reach 1 million.
  • Join a chinchilla rescue. They're so cute and fluffy, but often abused:( Why not help a cute little creature?
Have a great New Year!!!

Christmas!!!!!!!

I hope everyone is going to have a fantastical Christmas filled with laughter, gifts, joy, peace and love! Here are a few tips to enhance the Christmas Spirit!!!!!!!!!!!

Games To Play

#1 The simple one: shake your presents! Not only can you shake them you can feel them, you can see them (through the wrapping paper), you can smell them, you can squeeze them, and best of all you can lick them!!!
#2 Hide in the snow, if you don't have snow, hide in dirt!
#3 Find a piece of mistletoe... (very fun, you can scare people with it if your not in the mood to kiss!)
#4 Smash gingerbread houses.
#5 Dress up as the Grinch and scare little kids (or you can dress up as Santa and make them happy (not as preferred)

Tips for Decorations

#1 Use classy ornaments: modern = (cb2), crystal snowflakes (swarvoski), wooden ones, bows, nice plain non-colorful lights, candy canes, beaded strings, pretty star, nutcracker themed etc.
#2 Get napkins that have each reindeers name of it!
#3 Make a giant winter wonderland (picture included)
#4 Get a giant santa (I mean like nine feet high) , and put it somewhere!
#5 Decorate the outside of your house better than your neighbors (no one likes a neighborly loser!)

Getting Into The Spirit Tips

#1 Go out into the freezing cold and sing at the top of your lungs some Christmas songs!
#2 Wear weird Christmas sweaters...
#3 Turn on the fire, put a cat on your lap, and watch the best Christmas music EVER!!! = Elf!
#4 Do good deeds! (or bad, whatever makes you happy!)
#5 Buy a reindeer and open a petting zoo.

Christmas Party Tips

#1 Go old-school (once again) go out caroling! You don't just have to do the boring ones (Silent Night) try "Let It Snow", "Jingle Bell Rock", "Baby its Cold Outside" and even "Christmas Is All Around"!
#2 Do an ornament exchange party!
#3 Watch the awesome movie "Elf"!
#4 Go to a play like The Nutcracker or A Christmas Carol!
#5 Eat food. Eat a lot of it. Spread the joy in your digestive system!

Cooking Tips!

#1 Wassail, a delicious Christmassy drink that is warm and great:
1 gallon of apple cider
46 oz. of pineapple juice
3/4 of a cup of tea
Some cinnamon, allspice and cloves =
180 oz. Make it warm.
#2 Mince Pies, an english, yummy cute little pastry thingy:
Nigella Lawson's recipe is the best!
#3 Traditional roast:
Roast Chicken
Roast Lamb
Stuffing
Roast Potatoes
Christmas Pudding
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Corn
Onion
Cauliflower Cheese
Gravy
#4 Christmas Cookies!
#5 Hot Chocolate

Non-listed Tips
#1 Run around outside yelling, Merry Christmas (or not; you could also say Mountain Goats!)
#2 Make Gingerbread Houses (or eat them, or throw them, or drown them... multiple uses for a Gingerbread house!
#3 Send flowers to people. Even though they are so ugly I would rather have a dead possum as decoration; it will touch their hearts, even if they throw them out the window. It is the thought that matters!
#4 Do Christmas crackers.
#5 Sit and think about how you can help the world using Christmas spirit, or how you can destroy it with Christmas spirit!

Funny Things for The Morbid Pleasure of Disturbed Maniacs(or me!)

#1 Slowly take away and hide every ornament on the tree in the middle of the night, no one will notice until on Christmas morning they will all be gone! On the first day of Christmas my true love put in the planter, a wooden snowflake from our tree.
#2 Don't put gifts under the tree, on Christmas morning everyone will think someone stole their presents.
#3 Take off the star at the top of the tree and replace it with a BUDDHA.
#4 Wrap everything in newspaper.
#5 Open all the presents before people wake up!

Remember! Have a very merry Christmas, but not a happy new year. Have a terrible new year.

My Cat Movies

Hello Darling Readers!!!!!
I have made some extremely boring and devastatingly long videos about my fat cat Rosy. I decided to post them, but let me warn you: The longest one is sixteen minutes long. They are me, talking about my cat, while looking at my cat. Unless you are deeply concerned and interested in the life of my cat, Rosy, don't take the time out of your life to watch them. Go and jump of a cliff or get bitten by a poisonous salamander.

For those who say "Cheese!"

Yes, dear readers! The day has finally come!

We all knew it would happen...
We all knew we would love it...
So here it comes... CHEESE MAGAZINE!!!

Don't worry, it is not a catalogue, I have checked, it is a genuine cheese magazine.

This glorious magazine, called "Say Cheese," has actually been publicized for a year. However, it is only being published 4 times a year! This is simply because it is unpopular, but it can now be found in most magazine vendors, such as bookstore chains like Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Books, Inc. If you are truly devoted to cheese, you will buy this magazine. It has amazing recipes and interesting articles on histories of cheeses and whatnot. We need to make it come monthly, at least!

For updates or just fun without buying the magazine, you can easily and risk-free make an account with the magazine at saycheesemedia.com and click the Sign Up button. I highly recommend it!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a splendid Thanksgiving! ANd if it was not lovely and delightful, then maybe these ideas to have fun will help you next time.

Games to Play:

1. Say you have to go to the bathroom, take some food with you secretly and hide it somewhere, repeat until the food on the table is mostly gone. People will wonder where the food went and what that bad smell is!
2. Stare people down at the table. When they ask someone what you're doing, look away. It may sound immature, but it is so fun!!!
3. Take the pie and throw it in someone's face/ start a food fight!!
4. Take hold of the turkey, put it on your hand and pretend it is real. "Well hello Mr. Turkey" "Greeting Ms. Isobel, how are you?" "Quite fine, you?" "Well besides the part that I am slowly being demolished , I'm wonderful!"
5. Imagine everyone at your table having the heads of the food your eating. It is great fun!

Tips for Decorations:

1. Put pumpkins... EVERYWHERE!
2. Create a cute diorama of the first Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving today. If you don't have that much time, stick some lego people in a sloppy forest and house drawing. Or not.
3. Put orange candles everywhere
4. Put pretend turkeys on window ledges. Or buy a couple live ones as pets.
5. Have really cool plates and festive tableware.

Getting into the Spirit Tips:

1. Scream on the streets "Hail The Turkey!!!"
2. Hide in a box with a turkey.
3. Stuff your face with food.
4. Throw stuffing out of the window yelling "Happy Thanksgiving, Mwah HA HA!"
5. Think about what your thankful for.

Thanksgiving Lame but Fun Party Tips:

1. Put on a Thanksgiving play!
2. Write letters to and from items on the table (ex. Saucer to Sweet Potatoes)
3. Dress up as characters from Thanksgiving
4. Invite the whole family to come!
5. Write Happy Thanksgiving over and over on a sheet of paper in different fonts with friends.

I hoped this made your Thanksgiving marvelous.

If You Forget Me

This is a really nice poem by Pablo Neruda called "If You Forget Me"

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.

Did you like it?

Pop Culture

This is my pop culture post! I will right them every now and then, just to see how the world changes. Today I am doing talk shows. In the future I plan to do Sitcoms, Music, Movies, and Books, among other things.

TALK SHOWS:
Good: The Oprah Show. It may sound like a ball of cheese, but everyone interviewed is very interesting and I never turn off the TV without having learned something. Plus, I find Oprah's story inspirational and amazing. This is the show to watch if you want to actually pay attention!
O.K: Ellen. She's very funny and entertaining, but only for a little while. The people she interviews are mostly great, but not as good as on Oprah. If you're trying to listen to something while on the computer or whatever, this is probably a good choice.
Bad:That show on ABC Family called like "Family, Work, Religion." I find it kind of stereotypical, to be honest. I've only seen it a couple times, but every time I found it not very interesting. I overall wouldn't recommend it.

Hannah Montana!

Today is the end of Hannah Montana. She will reveal her secret to the world, give up Hannah Montana and go into college. WOW! I don't exactly like Hannah Montana, but it was such I cultural milestone for kids. I had this obsession with her when I was little, so I am dedicated today, Sunday, Nov. 7 to Hannah Montana. I am singing her music (which is funny because I know every lyric) and I am definitely going to watch the finale. I think I'm gonna cry!
I wonder what she will do after Hannah Montana, it may take a will for her to break out of her childish reputation, but I don't know if she has a good enough voice to be a star or if she will just fade away into nothing...
I hope you all will watch the episode because after all these years I think she deserves it!

Halloween Memories

Ahh, the Halloween memories. Of waking people up in the middle of the night for candy. Of being deadly tired the next day. Of staying up all night and then falling asleep in your candy. Of shoving food down your throat at 2 bars a second. Boy, do I love Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Here are 5 tips in categories to use for your halloween fun!

Games to Play With Candy:

1. Trading candy for candy
2. See how much candy you can shove into your mouth with yours friends in 1 minute
3. Open your widow and when somebody come to trick or treat throw candy at them
4. If you have too much, go outside and throw all your candy on the pavement see how long it is until everything is gone.
5. Hide your candy around the house, whenever you have an emergency suger-low you can immediately cure yourself before you die from LOC (lack of candy)

Tips for decorations

1. Be creative. I have a head on a chopping board next to a saw with a rat on top.
2. Red eyes and bats go perfectly.
3. Put decorations on assortments of levels. Hang them, put them on tables, have them scrambling on the floor etc.
4. Put things on your widow.
5. Be gory. Be disgusting. Sure kids might start screaming and have nightmares for the rest of there lives and need to go to counseling. You know what Sue says (glee) halloween IS fear! Mwah ha ha!

Halloween Party tips

1. Go old-school. Bobbing for apples is great fun
2. Put on creepy halloween techno music, it will get people away from the normal idiotic pop music.
3. Serve food in the shape of body parts.
4. Get cool napkins!
5. Wear really cool costumes

Getting into the spirt tips

1. Decorate your house. Mega. Make it the house of horror.
2. Watch Rocky Horror Picture Show!!
3. Sit down. Make it pitch black. Get a flashlight. Start telling ghost stories. The best are ones about ice cream trucks, masks, turning people into stone, axes, swinging in a playground alone, clowns and barbies.
4. Start screaming.
5. Scare people. Get yourself scared. Trust me. It feels great!

I hope this helped make your halloween spectacular!

Lime Jelly!

This is a recipe for gelatin-free lime jelly. To be perfectly honest it was supposed to come out fruit jellies but I made a few critical mistakes in the process. It ended up great, though! Just not what I expected.

I'm going to put down the recipe I tried to use, but also add in my mistakes so you can either make fruit jellies or fruit jelly. Oddly this recipe for Lime Jellies involves more applesauce then lime juice, but it still tastes quite limey!

INGREDIENTS:
2 1/2 cups of sugar
the juice of 4 limes
the zest of 2 limes
1 1/2 cups applesauce (it's important the applesauce you use is unsweetened.)
for jellies 2 teaspoons powdered pectin, for the jelly 4 teaspoons liquid pectin.

Now this is the voice of experience talking: Don't use the wrong pectin!!! It can seriously affect your food if you do. The hard thing is most grocery stores only sell one kind. If this is so, then DO go to the trouble of finding the right kind. And if you end up buying the wrong thing, DON'T use some stupid "pectin conversion chart" from the internet like I did. Again, voice of experience.

The rest is fairly simple, however you do need a candy thermometer. If you are like me and really enjoy cooking and candy one of these is a good investment. It's somewhat critical to the making of ALL candies.

First is simple, combine the applesauce and lime juice in a medium deep saucepan. Now in a small bowl combine 1/2 a cup of sugar and the pectin, whatever kind. Now clip on the candy thermometer and mix them together until they reach 225 degrees Fahrenheit. If you don't have one of these dealies then wait until it boils. Keep mixing! While doing so add the remaining sugar (2 cups,) and then add the lime zest. Now pour into a buttered 8x8" brownie pan and let sit for a minimum of 2 hours. (NOTE: 8x8" is what I used. But be prepared for it to come out about an inch thick.) Once solid, sprinkle A LOT of sugar on top. If you're making jelly, you're done by now! If it's the candy jellies you seek, slice it into squares, dredge in sugar, and leave on a cooling rack overnight. :(

books

Hi everybody, I just read this really amazing book called Camilla by Madeliene L'engle. It was definitely one of the best books of all time. At school we're doing a project where we read a book and write, memorize and perform a "book talk" trying to advertise the book. We were given a series of choices by 3 authors, and I chose this one because the cover looked very interesting. I'm glad I did! Another day at school I felt like reading, but I left my copy at home so I went to the library and looked for it. They had another copy, but it was a different version. And I was surprised! It was absolutely tiny, like, 5 inches tall 3 1/2 inches wide, and the cover was SO lame. I know not to judge a book by it's cover, but seriously, I never would have chosen to read this book for my project if they had chosen to display that copy instead of the one I took. Never! And then I had (as Oprah would call it,) and A-HA moment. A book is the same book even if it has a different (and much lamer) cover! I will never walk into a library or book store the same way ever again.

But the point still stands. The picture on the left is Pic. #1, the one on the right is Pic. #2. I want you to decide which one you think is better, just because I'm curious. The way to vote will be Ala the poll on the left, and please do!

Besides Camilla, I am currently reading two other different, but very good books. Again, one has a just OK cover and the other has a brilliant one. The books are Savvy and Out of My Mind. I don't remember the authors' names, though. Savvy is about a girl who's family all earn magical powers when they turn 13, and this girl thinks hers could save her father who's in a coma from a major car crash. Out of My Mind is about a brilliant girl whom everyone thinks is retarded because she has cerebral palsy.

-Iris

P.S. I have a feeling several people will feel differently about this from me, but when I said one of the books I'm reading now has a simply brilliant cover, I meant Out of My Mind, not Savvy.
